I think many people will agree here -

After less than a year of employment, it is selfish for your Nanny to take such an extended leave of absence unless it is a family emergency.

I don’t think that your Nanny really needs the money.
If she did, I would think that she would take her job much more seriously.

I would issue her her walking papers if she is so intent on taking this trip + begin my new search for a brand new Nanny.

That is an unreasonable request, and your nanny should expect to be replaced. I rolled over my vacation time from 2020, and agreed with my boss that I will take two 2wk trips instead of one big one. Also, a lot of nannies from Central America or Mexico often take long trips and then never come back.


This is a tangent but I have never seen this happen except in extreme circumstances like parent dies or some emergency like that. I’m curious to know what are you live in. I’m in Los Angeles from Guatemala and my mom too. We both have worked as nannies and have gone back to work after 2 weeks of being in Guatemala. I’m assuming those nannies are unprofessional, don’t need the job or don’t care
