I’ve been lucky to employ a wonderful Mexican nanny and housekeeper—both smart, kind, loving and hard-working. Now they have moved on but will always be precious to us.

The parents who do not appreciate the parent-partner concept are the employers who have "nannies" who are really *housekeepers*, they simply "watch" kids so they don't hurt themselves.

Impactful, lol! Do you want your nanny to create synergies across different playgrounds so your child isn't so siloed?

My nanny is a Scorpio. I didn't think it would work out at first but she's been very supportive and surprisingly normal for a Scorpio. I guess we just got lucky.

Though most parents want nannies that are like furniture- just their and no opinions. But those are the parents that sit in here and complain all day.

We also love our Brazilian nanny. she is our second one and came to us via our first; they are best friends.

I said team parent — on a team. Level with the parents. Giving advice and guiding the parents with the current guidelines, regulations and laws. Which is why nannies must continue their education and trainings every year. Nannies should stay current with everything child related, so when needing to give guidance to parents they are giving the most current advice and help.

And yes I am considered in the decisions because, guess what, we work together as a team! But hey. I’ve only been doing this 28 yrs. I’m only on my 3rd family and I also have a masters in education. Oh and credentials in child nutrition, swimming, sleep training, and more. I’m also in my 4th class this year. Currently it’s conscious discipline. And when I’m hired by parents I’m hired for my education, skills and experiences.

It depends on the family and nanny. I look for families with whom I will be a partner in raising their children. They’re looking for someone to take on that level of caring and responsibility.

I would never stereotype that way. We've only had one nanny, been with us for 8 years, and was the person most comfortable with our then-infant and dog. Our dog felt a bond instantly. We listened to her and have never regretted it.
