YES! Our healthcare system has been broken for many years and it seems that no one cares about this problem. That's why I don't blame nannies if they ask for money under the table. Health insurance subsidy should be revised in Congress but I don't think that democrats will do anything regarding healthcare.

By the way, my last nanny admitted that she has some problems with filling her tax returns and that's why she wants to be paid under the table. She doesn't really understand all the nuances of finances and has to use a tool for calculating tax returns which is pretty useful for people like her.

Due to this issue, I outlined the fact that we did everything above board during the first part of the interview. Was able to narrow candidates down pretty quickly as everyone who wanted under the table was very upfront about it.

Agree with PP who said that it is not your responsibility to get to a number that matches their desired net by figuring out their taxes. Set the rate you are willing to pay and you will find someone. We have always had success on care.com. A lot less expensive than paying the 2k placement fees of other services (though nannypoppinz isn’t great for emergency sitters in a pinch— just don’t want to pay the 2k placement fee for a regular nanny)

That’s Medicaid. While it may be free for her, it comes it of taxpayer pockets (including other nannies’).

She has health insurance via marketplace based on income. Real jobs provide health insurance. So on the books no health insurance is hard

My nanny was 63. She had Medicare for free based on income, qualified food stamps, got lower property taxes due to low income. She could not afford on the books. I only needs her a few months anyhow so paid get cash. One pay day she just never came back no notice. Tried to call but no answer.

I had the same experience. So many nanny candidates wanted to be paid under the table because of the health insurance subsidy. It’s hard to blame them given the absurd costs for healthcare in the US.

Contact NannyPoppinz. When you tell her what you need, make it clear that taxes must be withheld. You will only get candidates who will agree to legal pay.
