They are disgusting people. I hope you find a better employer once this is over.

First File for unemployment. And then look for another job , I would not go back if they aren't going to pay you now and expect you to return. That is just not justified.

As I said before, there are several reasons people work off the books. People on social security, disability and food stamps/other government assistance frequently prefer being paid under the table. Not right, but unfortunately they do.

You’re not “burning them”. Taking care of yourself isn’t burning them. They can’t pay you, so you find new work.

I agree with this but not the small claims court. You really need to communicate with your employer that you are available for work and if they don’t want you coming you will either need to be paid or will need to find a new job (maybe they know someone?) or file for unemployment

You need to grow up and handle this situation like an adult. I, along with others, are in the same situation, and you don't see us making multiple threads about this. Either you wait until they need you again, or tell them it's not working out. There isn't much else anyone can tell you. Their main priority is to look out for their family, not you.

You already posted this like a week go whining about how they make so much money and you are entitled for them to pay you. Stop - this is a pandemic and they have their family to worry about, not you.

Is there a force majeure stipulation in your contract?

Did op say she was paid under the table? She could of already applied for unemployment in the past and maybe owes? Anyway, op, I would look for a new job and when they ask you to come back, simply tell them that since they weren’t paying you, you assumed you were let go and have started with a new family— don’t mention anything to them and at this point you don’t owe them anything. As for a reference, if you’ve worked for other families, list them and then be honest with a potential employer(s) and let them know what you said above because that’s just flat out wrong and they will understand why you didn’t list them; or if you haven’t been with that family very long, don’t list them.

If unemployment money isn't an option for you because you were paid under the table then you made your own bed.
