Right now I bet a lot of parents are damn glad they found a way to make it work with their nannies now that preschools are closed.

I am a legal secretary and work 11-7. My request. No driving in rush hour. i can see my doc at 8am and not miss work. Or i can go to the gym and not rush. Love later hours.

Paying “extremely well” is key.

My moms charges are 14 and 18. She has been with them since the kids were 2 and 6. Her schedule has changed over the years to adjust to the childrens school schedule and extra curricular’s. My mom used to be their part time housekeeper before transitioning to their full time nanny and housekeeper since the kids were in school. They have paid my mom extremely well and this doesn’t mean she has been their slave or been desperate. Her boss has always adjusted her tasks and since my mom had been a housekeeper before she didn’t find it degrading. Some of y’all are so sensitive

I cannot believe how desperate some of these nanny women are. They are treated as servants or slaves. They are desperate, and employers are taking advantage of that.

Steady stream of poor immigrants provides this supply.

Very few people work these hours. She cannot have dinner with her family as well as many other family times. Also, OP can make other arrangements for her date nights!

I would suggest you discuss this with the nanny and see what she wants. I would not accept such a schedule as I, too, have a life. If she is as good as you say then she will quit and find a job with normal hours.

Our nanny works 7:30-5 most days, occasionally until 6. DC5 is in K, 9-3:30. DC4 is in preschool, 9-11:30. Nanny has that time in the morning that DC4 is in school to do what she needs to do. Most of the time she does kid laundry, makes lunch, or goes to Safeway, but other times she'll run to the DMV or take her mom to a doctor's appt, etc.

I pay her for a minimum of 50 hours a week (10 overtime, obv). If I ask her to stay late for an hour one day, or if she babysits one night, I'll add those hours to the overtime total. The kids are off too many days to not have the flexibility in coverage for those mornings.

Yeah, it's expensive, but works for us.
