Op here. I absolutely offered her the couch or the futon in my nephews toy room. I am unapologetic about that. Flame away
Couch in the living room is unacceptable. As long as the toy room has a door that closes, the futon can be made up like a real bed and nephew would have to stay out of the playroom except during AP’s work hours, that’s reasonable.
Do you guys realize this is an emergency situation?? What if it was on a weekend and AP wasn't working? I guess the nephew could wake up AP out of the room at 6 am to start playing? My point is: in case of emergency situation everyone has to have REASONABLE Expectation. It is not like the family is on a vacation or something, they are also figuring it out. I would totally rematch with an au pair who shows me their princess side in the type of circumstances.

Imagine if your employer violated an employment law and said “but it was an emergency...”
-HM who would have offered to take the futon and put the kids on the couch

Right, and I love how everyone assumes that the relative has tons of space to accommodate all kinds of people. My sister lives in a 2 bedroom condo.
And it sounds like you got the kid’s bedroom. Nope, if that was the plan, it should have been AP, with you and your kids in the playroom.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:You realize that she should have been offered a bedroom, right? Even a bedroom at the cheapest motel you could find would be better than a random couch.
My guess is this is from the not host mom/not AP for whom nothing is good enough.
Anonymous wrote:AP are ALWAYS supposed to be offered a private room. Your kids go on the couch, you can go on the couch, but you abide by the rules.
