Daycare is also expensive. You should have thought about childcare expenses prior to having a child.
I guess you missed the part where OP said she is new to the area?
In many other parts of the country, childcare is much cheaper.

Here's a newsflash for you. All childcare givers deserve a livable wage, just as you do! I bet you wouldn't take care of someone else's kid for $14/hr.

I wouldn’t call them amazing. More like they are semi competent but nothing to brag about.

You can absolutely find an amazing nanny who will be engaged and loving for $15/hr. However, they likely do not have working visas (here illegally) and will take cash only.

Yes $20 is about average for this area. Remember that many also pay above board with taxes and benefits.

You aren’t being “insensitive “, OP, you simply can’t afford a nanny. No one takes offense to that. You should definitely start looking at daycares now.

The “fight for $15” is a supposed to be a living wage. That said, the market for nannies in DC is well above $15/he.
