I was expecting to pay $15 per hour, however I’ve had two applicants tell me that rate is too low, and have quoted me $20/hr and $22/hr?! I know DC is expensive, but that’s literally half of my income per year. Is this normal? We live in Columbia Heights if that matters, and we only want childcare duties, as we have a cleaning lady that comes 1x per week.
We also looked into a share, and the quote was $14 per baby. That’s $28 per hour. I hate to sound insensitive, but if this is really the case in this area with private childcare, then unfortunately I may start looking into a few daycares.
Daycare is also expensive. You should have thought about childcare expenses prior to having a child.

Anonymous wrote:You can absolutely find an amazing nanny who will be engaged and loving for $15/hr. However, they likely do not have working visas (here illegally) and will take cash only.
