And if your AP totals the car after two minor issues?

I do not give my AP a car. Noooo way. No one ever gave me a car!

My car is for me. AP gets an unlimited bus and metro pass.

I agree that a lot of you sound cheap, and it’s truly not worth the resentment. Asking the Au pair to pay more than 2 weeks pay puts a huge burden on the Au pair. Perhaps a sliding scale? $200 for the first incident and then $400 for the next? $200 means so much more to them then it does to you. I’d be paying thousands of it was an entire weeks salary for me.

Your premiums may well rise, and your insurance might not be willing to cover her anymore (this happened to us, but it was a personal injury case), but I'd be surprised if you were out of pocket the $2500 it would cost you if you had to pay for the entire repair yourself. And she should take some responsibility - this whole thing would be a big issue for me.

Sorry, thought I saw the amount of $2500 somewhere - sorry if I misunderstood.

A $500 deductible is a whole lot cheaper than a year's worth of car payments.
She should be grateful she's not paying for ALL the damage.

But it is an AP responsibility only up to a certain amount (max is $500). You should check your contract with the agency, but that’s what it is!

Pur AP just got side swiped. Police and insurance determined it was the other drivers fault.

If your AP takes her driving responsibilities seriously and doesn't cause accidents this is a non issue. If she is at fault she needs to pay the agreed upon AP agreement deductible. I dont even understand why people are debating this.

One of our au pairs put a large dent in our car off duty and was bitter that we wanted to fix it at all. She thought we should just leave it there and she wouldn’t have to pay anything. We rematched with a fantastic au pair.
