If you are rich, sure give her $50k, but if you are like the rest of us, 2-4 weeks salary is good and a thoughtful gift.

MB here. After 14 years of dedicated service to your children, I would give four or five times that amount and we are not rich by any definition.

I think 1k is a huge insult, that is almost what I gave to my au pair ($800) after she had been with our family for 2 years.

She was likely with your family through the best and the worst of times. I would also dig deep, a month salary, a memory book, and a small vacation (you can use your points and / or timeshare if you have one).

95% of you cannot afford a nanny.

This - though I'd probably go to the two week side. And she'd be part of many family celebrations etc... for years to come if she'd been with us for that long.

Two weeks is what you should have been giving as her Christmas bonus. Why would she want to be a part of your cheap family.

$1K seems low for 14 years. I would say 2-3 weeks salary.

Cheap, ungrateful,

Engraved with, "Well done good and faithful servant"? This is an insult.

You didn't take care of your kids either. Being a lawyer is kids play compared to bring a nanny. Also, the government does not give large bonuses. However, if you were any good, you would have been with a law firm where you would have received a $$$$ bonus.

I seriously doubt any Nanny receives that high of an amount for a final bonus!

She took care of your most precious possession for 14 years! Other PP is correct, a year's salary. I would take out a loan to do this!! I don't even understand why OP would need to ask.

Whoever is saying 1,000 is nuts. We give that yearly. I would say nothing less than 10,000.

PP from above and please let her visit when it's convenient for both of you. She is going to miss you all terribly.

Give her what you can afford and a gift that has something to do with the children. A photo book or something they made. Those are the things I will treasure for life. Twenty years ago one of my beloved "children" gave me a penny because she heard me complaining about having to get my car fixed. I still have that penny.

14 years is commendable service to your family. Dig deep, OP. That nanny was there for you and your children for a long time.

+1. No one can give you an amount, OP. But you should be as generous as is possible.

My year end bonus is 5k. 1000 is an insult after 14 yrs. If you didn’t give her a 401k the not a dime under 50k.
