You can sometimes pull that off with a much older baby, but with a newborn she needs to either be nursing or pumping if he's having a bottle--even if she's not producing much milk, she's not going to start producing more if she doesn't either nurse or pump to stimulate production.

Agreed that she should see a lactation consultant if she is committed to continuing, though.
yea she says that pumping is annoying and she prefers the baby on her breasts however yes when she's gone all day I have no choice but to give him formula and he does great. I have him on a pretty good schedule the same one his sister was on when i started caring for her 2 years ago... But I will keep encouraging her so her supply can grow more

But is she pumping while she is away from baby or not? Because if she is not pumping and is gone more than a few hours at a time, she will NOT be successful at breastfeeding.

No she isn't pumping when she goes out

Thanks everyone for your answers and for those who told me to stay out of it... I'll take that advice with a grain of salt because when he's screaming for hours she gets frustrated and yells at him. I'll suggest the lactation consultant and continue to encourage her and help her to know that she's not a bad mom if she has to supplement.
