When I saw the post, my immediate reaction was "too much", but the details make it pretty easy. Your 3-year olds will be out for the night by the time the nanny gets there (assuming they don't wake up). Everyone else is ready for bed, and nothing really needs to be done for them - no baths, no dinner, no changing, no entertainment. Essentially the nanny needs to make sure no one burns the house down, and kids go to bed at an appropriate time for each. No, not too much.

I think it really depends how much time kids spent together as a group before and what is their dynamic. Between me and my sister-in-law we have 7 and we used to have 3 neighbors coming in a lot, making it 10 over the holidays when everyone visit. If you take a special needs kid, and have adult watching him, another adult can very easily handle the other 9 (youngest 4.5 yrs old), just because of kids dynamic... Most of the time kids will be playing games with each other, watching TV, or something.
So if the nanny agrees, and knows kids and the kids are behaving it is fine.

I’ve cared for 6+ kids for a short period of time before.
My concern is how easily they will go to bed. If they’re there with all of their friends, it is going to be a party. You can’t promise they will settle down.
If your nanny has a lot of experience, she can probably handle it, but it will be a hassle. Do not hire an inexperienced nanny for this. That’s too risky.

Right. It’s not outrageous to be in a home with 8 kids. We will of course make sure our neighbors know that we’re out and all of our kids are with our nanny. Now that I think of it, our next door neighbor a close friend so I will ask her if she could pop over around bed time just to make sure everyone is ok and settled in.
She won’t be changing any diapers, feeding anyone, entertaining anyone, none of that is expected. The kids like to enjoy time with their cousins when they’re in town so she’s just there to supervise and make sure they get in bed.
If I were the nanny and you had you neighbor check on me, I'd tell both of you to stuff it,!
Lol our nanny has been with us 8 years and the neighbor has popped in to say hello or drop off treats before. She’s not there to check on the nanny.

The 3 year old twins will be in bed before the babysitter gets there. All kids will have had dinner and baths, and ready for bed. The 9 and under kids(not including 3 yo twins) will go to bed an hour after we leave. The 11 and 12 yo have to be in their room by 11 and lights off by 12.
Our day time nanny agreed to do it(she occasionally does date nights for us): That doesn’t sound like too much for one person does it? The older kids keep to themselves(preteen boys) and the girls will be in bed within an hour. The only one who might cause an issue is the 6 year old but at most she might just whine for her mom. All the other kids are fine with babysitters, especially mine since they know her well. She’s worked for us for 8 years so the other kids have met her a few times.
She would be there from 8:30pm-1:30am(we plan to be home by 1 but just in case). She’s welcome to spend the night or go home. In the past she’s pretty 50/50 on staying the night. Sometimes she will fall asleep early and stay, other times she leaves when we return.
We were thinking of paying 300 for the night. 100 per family
Nanny here. I've cared for 7 kids, but they were all the same immediate family, which is very, very different.
With the situation you describe, you need to stop and think. Will she be on overtime yet? If so, yes, your sisters should be fine with 100 each for the night, but you should be doing 150 (time and a half). If the kids are that easy, it should be okay, especially if she's met all of the kids before.
The only thing that would make me stop and think would be the 2 3 year olds. What happens if one of them wakes up, and the first wakes the second?

Uh yes I could do this. Almost all of the kids will be asleep for the majority of the time. The 2 oldest do not need her to watch them. They will probably play video games all night and they can make themselves food(although we always order extra pizza for date nights anyway). None of the kids that will be awake for 1 hour are in diapers, need baths, dinner, etc. they’ll even already be in their pajamas. She’s not expected to entertain the kids at all. I don’t want them making a mess of the entire house so they’ll know any playing is restricted to the playroom or their bedrooms beforehand.

Afton, VA. Our nanny charges us a 100 base fee for date nights so since it’s 3 families, that’s how I came up with the price. After seeing some replies, I’m thinking we can throw in an extra hundred.
