The person who thinks that these are acceptable conditions to work under is free to negotiate her own contract with these stipulations. No one should work under conditions that they didn't agree to. This is crucial in a field where you are not protected by a union (and don't benefit from collective bargaining or have a watertight contract, or representation), don't have coworkers, and are not protected under most federal labor regulations. As a nanny you are in a vulnerable position in someone else's home, usually working for a family of a higher socioeconomic status than you and frequently someone who speaks the native language, is a citizen, etc when that is not the case for the employee. If you don't think that it is important for these people to be able to advocate for themselves, their dignity, and their working conditions-then I have no words. An agency is supposed to bridge that gap and wield power behind the nannies they represent, not threaten them.

Did you miss this part of the OP: I’m never called by my name, the kids are so disrespectful and I basically pick up after everyone. The Dad is super creepy and the mom is so snotty and has commented on my weight numerous times (and I’m not overweight, she’s just super fit).

Is this not being treated like scum in your opinion?

I hope Op told her family and friends what island she's on. This is not a good situation and I am dying to learn about this agency.

OP, are you still checking this thread? If you CAN leave, then leave. They can watch their own kids.

If not, then document everything. Take video. Bill them when you get home.

Also, the agency does not have your back, they are more interested in their reputation. DOn't be afraid to call them out.

OP, you need to just leave.

I am so sorry this is happening to you. Truly a nightmare situation.

agree that you might need to speak to the higher up. you need to put your complaints to them in writing (an email would be good) and specifically let them know that your contract is being breached and the ways in it is/has been. state that you've called, emailed, texted, x person at y time in the email. state "this is my zth attempt at reaching the agency regarding this issue." your work agreement is totally nullified by them disregarding it. you owe them nothing. have you spoken to the family at all? i'm sure it's scary but i think you need to let them know that your contract is not being honored and that you won't be able to work under these circumstances unless they can be rectified or you are sent home.

Is there a hostel you can go to until it's time to leave? I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I think the only other thing you can do is keep pestering the agency. Keep bugging them...squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that. If person A at the agency won't help you, ask for their boss and so on. don't let this go.
