Try starting at $23. $20 is in the cash, undocumented range in Chicago.

What? Do you even live in Chicago? Chicago nanny here. $15-16 per hour cash and $18-25 on the books is Chicago market rate.

Yes, I live in Old Town. And $23 is a competitive starting hourly wage.

Sorry, but no it isn’t.

Stop. It absolutely is in my experience. I am an MB and know what good nannies stated as their starting rate just last November when I interviewed.

Nanny here. Sorry, but nannies always inflate their wages to employers who look like they can afford it. Go to any agency and look at the national average. It’s $16 take home. Unless your nanny has a degree or over 20 years of experience, you’re way overpaying.

Please stop...you cannot overpay someone to take care of your child and as a nanny you should know that. If someone can afford to pay $23/hr but you only want to take $16/hr then skip that job and look for the cheaper one. Idk in what world an actual nanny would fight to get paid less.

I went through an agency and of course our nanny has a college degree. But even friends who have undocumented nannies pay $20 off the books. We aren’t talking about the national average - we are talking about Chicago. I stand by my initial assessment.
