We pay our nanny $22 ($11/family) for a share with two 2-year-olds. No health insurance. 10 paid vacation days, 5 paid sick days, 1 paid personal day, paid major federal holidays. We live in Capitol Hill.

Anonymous wrote:Hi - I'm curious what a current nanny share rate is in the DC, MD, VA area. We current have a nanny share with two 2.5 year old girls and our nanny makes $25/hour 40 hours a week and time and a half for another 10 hours or so. She gets 12 paid vacation days a year. As we are considering a raise, I'm curious where we fall in terms of pay. Thanks for your insights!

That seems like a very solid rate and I would not feel pressed to make a big raise other than your regular annual adjustment. Let's put it in these terms: if you look for a new nanny, you would have a great pool of willing applicants at $25/hr.

We pay $22 ($11 per family). We will go up at the end of the year to either $23 or $24. After that we'd only go up $1 per year (50 cents per family).

It would be at least $30/hr for me.

Taking care of two infants giant responsibility
25 is a fair rate
Each family can pay. 12.50 an hour
If you can’t pay a nanny stay home and watch your children

First nanny share pay was $20
Second nanny share pay was $24
Third nanny share pay was $26

Every family pays different. But remember it all depends on what the family is looking for and how much they are willing to pay. You can't ask a nanny of 10+ years of experience and education to take $20... NO WAY. She will ask for top money. If she takes it. She will leave.
