Why don't you eat with the 3yo?
Im all for having a break but I don't get why you eat lunch on your break instead of with the child/children.

NP here. I prefer to eat slowly and in peace and have always eaten my lunch when the kids nap/rest. Additionally, I have always brought my own food and and don’t want to share it every single day. I sit with them at lunch, talk with them, help them, but wait to eat my own lunch.

Don’t be a doormat for people. Leave them. They themselves not doing that for their kids. They put them in front of the Tv. And can’t wait for the nanny to come on Monday. No consideration for others. Hope is not them telling you not to take a break. I don’t take foolishness. I leave. God is my source. Not my job. When one door closes another opens.

Because I HAVE to feed them at 1045. Why do you have an issue with it to begin with?

Because it’s hard to eat while feeding/helping a child with SN...

Yes, when the kids nap/do quiet time. Our nanny doesn't do any housework besides cleaning up kid toys and washing their dishes after meal times, so she gets to sit down and chill out/eat lunch etc. But of course she's still listening for the kids, etc. I'm not sure how I could give her actual breaks because she is at home alone with the kids while my husband and I are at work.

Nanny here and I've never taken a rest break personally. When my nanny kids nap I make dinner, do laundry, clean our morning messes, unload and reload the dishwasher, prep afternoon activities, and shove bites of my lunch in between.

I never thought about resting until I waa pregnant. 55 hour weeks while pregnant with HG is HARD!

I implement quiet time when the children age out of napping. I’d you are a nanny, that should be an easy thing to accomplish.

I only work 7.5 to 8 hours a day and no - I don’t get any downtime/rest time.

That’s what the playground is for

I work with toddlers and older. Having homeschooled as well as worked with school age kids who actually left for school, I can tell you that the playground is my friend! I watch, take pictures and videos, respond to parents’ texts and emails, so I’m working. But it’s usually one of my only times to sit down each day (school breaks for kids attending school). And my days start around 5am, end around 9pm, so there’s that. If you don’t like it, fine another family or another career, because it’s normal for most nannies.

Not true rest time where you don’t have to be keeping an ear out, but yes to some quiet time for everyone.

There are three main options here:
1. Kids go to their rooms for a set period of time with books or other quiet toys
2. You figure out which activities are the most engaging for the kids and you set those up for independent play in the afternoon and set the expectation that they have some independent play time while you sit and rest a bit.
3. Screen time

If the kids are starting with zero independent play skills, then you may need to start with just 5-10 minute chunks. Work and build up to 30+ minutes. This is important for the kids to learn.
