Tell her that in order for you to babysit going forward, she must:
a) pay you wages for night, right when you get there- before she leaves.
b) also pay 10-20 hours of your back wages right when you get there. She should be able to handle this payment.

If you arrive and she doesn't pay up front, you leave- plain and simple. Stay strong- don't cave in under any circumstances. If she says she has to go to ATM, no. Go home and tell her to call you when she has the money. Don't let her leave you alone with her kid before she gives you CASH

Op here. She says she will pay me before work on Friday. At this point what do I have to loose? The only reason I've put up with this so long is because I bring my daughter to work with me. My daughter really enjoys playing with her daughter. They're really good friends.


Op, I’m a softie too, but this is ridiculous. Either you are hosting unpaid play dates for your daughter, no expectation of being paid, or you are a paid babysitter. Figure out which and go forward appropriately. Yes, you can easily take her to small claims, you just need proof of when you talked and worked. So a text asking you to care for her daughter on sat and sun, sent feb 20 should be adequate proof that you worked feb 24 and 25. You also need to show that you tried to collect, so phone records of when you talked to her and for how long, combined with text logs and emails.

Can she drop off the cash for you on Thursday night? Or give you a check and you take it to HER bank on Friday am to withdraw the amount? If her bank cannot give you the cash from her account, you know it is a bad check.

I feel for you. You are a very nice person. Is there no dad in the picture for the other mother? Not to be harsh, but when she works, where does the money she earns from that job go? Is she a waitress? She should be able to give you cash that night.

No, that's not "too nice" it's being a slave and very dumb. She needs to pay up and you need to stop working for her until she does. I get that some people are living pay check to pay check but waiting for a tax return is her problem not yours. If she can't pay you she needs to get herself on vouchers and find a place that accepts them.


Op here. I know all of this but I really want to be paid. I have to go about it in a creative way. She's asking me if I can work Friday and Saturday night this weekend. I did not reply to her text yesterday. She's asking again this morning.

Op here. I told her last week that I would not babysit until I get paid. She freaked out because she said I would put her job in jeopardy. She's so crazy and inconsistent with her excuses. I think she may be doing drugs or something.

Op here. I would feel so uncomfortable doing this. I honestly just want this person to vanish from my life but I really should be paid for the time I worked. I have a numb feeling you get after a breakup. I don't feel anything.
