I think you need to add an appearance clause in your contract, and that it needs to be discussed during the interview.

She is not a good fit for your family and that's OK. You can like somebody, her personality, but not hire her because from the sounds of it she is an acceptable to you physically.

I have worn nail polish before that has scratched off on walls if I accidentally bump them. I usually do not wear nail polish that might be the quality but I have seen it happen.

I am allergic to a lot of perfumes and they give me a major headache. After our nanny came over for the first day and held our baby the baby smelled so strongly like the perfume, so I told her that she would not be allowed to wear perfume in our house. She was fine with that. As for appearance, she has rainbow hair and tons of tattoos. I let that stuff go because I don't think it affects her ability to be a great nanny. I also have never commented on her choice of outfits. I'm not sure what the nail thing is about, but you are definitely free to tell a nanny that you will dictate what they can and can't wear and what they should look like. But just be aware that you should pick your battles, because if the hair thing isn't a deal breaker, you might be turning away otherwise great nannies.

You should get someone else. You sound like you enjoy micromanaging and it's easier with someone who has fewer things you want to micromanage... so get someone new.

Why do you think it's a good idea to tell someone how to wear their hair though? Unless she's a surgeon or a professional cook, how she wears her hair has no bearing on how she does her job. You don't even have babies - and even with babies, we all make choices; I kept my hair down when I had a good hair day and was willing to put up with the baby pulling on it. And when I was in no mood for that, I put it in a bun. It's really that simple.

Find someone new.

You don't like her perfume, her long red nails, long hair, her clothes. What the hell do you actually like about her? Do her a favor and choose someone else!

If she admitted to it (still cannot figure out what kind of nail polish could possibly do that) then she should know better than to wear it to your house. If you have to actually tell her to stop damaging your furniture, you chose a really stupid person to be your children's nanny!
