OP, I think they should have thanked you. However, I'm not sure I would want this kind of gift from my kid's nanny. I can't quite put my finger on it. It seems like too much, like it's a request for something big in return.

You think one of them THREW IT AWAY but you’re still giving them? You know what they say about insanity- it’s doing the same thing but expecting different results. You’re acting insane, literally.

Wow. I think this sounds like an amazing gift and would love to receive something like this. But agree that it sounds like your family doesn't necessary appreciate them. I know that must be difficult for you to hear/ process as it sounds like you do them with love and generosity.

I think there's a difference between books of your own kids and your sister-in-law's/etc kids. I worked for two families who absolutely loved seeing pictures of the kids, asked me to take as many as I could, etc, and a couple families who were more or less enthusiastic about pictures but not over the moon. I've never met anyone who didn't want to see pictures of their kids, though.

By not thanking you promptly, the family is letting you know that they are just not that keen on receiving these photo books every year.

They are also extremely inconsiderate to not tell you this directly.
As well as not properly thanking you.

OP,
I think what you are doing is very kind however the family may be feeling a little uncomfortable w/the time + money that you are spending each year.
And you really do not have to gift the parents anyway.

Especially the extended family.

You sound like a truly generous person overall.

You are spending $800 on a gift for the family YOU WORK FOR?!

That is crazy. Gifts should flow downward. Stop.
