I asked our nanny if she is planning on getting one and offered to pay for it. She said she would only get one if I specifically wanted her to get one and in previous times employers requested one she’s gotten “really sick from it for multiple days”. Not sure what really happened but i took it as if I make her get one she will expect additional sick days.

no, you can't control another person's body. i know some employers who considered firing their nanny because she did not want to get a flu shot. she was trying to get pregnant, and did not want to get a vaccination she'd never had before. you don't know, and don't have the right to know/ask, if she has a personal/medical reason not to get the shot.
if you didn't stipulate that she would need to get one at hiring, then you are stuck. you can fire her and pay unemployment. or you can accept that you can't control everything in life, and move on. i'm by no means anti vaccination, but have never gotten the flu shot. doctors/ the CDC can't predict what strains will be prevalent that year, or prevent the spread of new strains at all. hand washing and getting adequate sleep, nutrition, and exercise is the best way to stay healthy during cold and flu season.

+1. I don’t get the flu shot unless parents ask, but I am certainly knowledgeable enough to understand the benefit. PP, please shelare your knowledge about the chemicals and additives and their potential risks.

You have the right to make vaccination a condition of employment if you made this known in hiring process.

You do realize that he was worried about the health of his children right? Not saying the dad didn't go overboard with the hep and hiv stuff but take a step back and look where parent employers are coming from. They don't want their kids to get sick and they don't know want you to get sick. Anyway before you sign a contract just state beforehand your preferences on this.

We required the flu shot and the whooping cough vaccine when our twins were born. Every other year after that we've said we'll pay for the flu shot (our pediatrician also gives it to adults when you bring the kids in), but haven't required it.

I believe too much in body autonomy to require a nanny to get a flu shot.
I am willing to pay for it if she chooses to get one.

I was forced into it after already accepting the offer and coming to the US my employers made no mention of it prior to my arrival.

I had no issue getting the flu and tdap. He mentioned the hiv and hepatitis later. I ignored him

Of course you can require your nanny to get a flu shot or choose to replace her. Ideally you will put it in your contract and discuss it before hiring. Personally, I don’t get the flu shot unless the family I work for requests it. Also, the emoloyer should cover the cost of insurance does not.
