This. Don't rely on text messages. Type up a work agreement before you start working with people, and make sure you are all in agreement.

Or, start going through an agency that will do some of that negotiation work for you.


+1 - the agreement should be in place in writing when you start. It sets the ground rules for everyone.

No, including when the family goes on vacation "or something". Guaranteed hours are X amount of hours paid 52 weeks a year regardless of the reason.

As a nanny this is what I have and have always had. I have never had an employer who did not understand and accept this.
