If we didn't give notice, we would give severance in lieu of notice, so that would give the nanny some income while looking for another job (but not the 6 weeks OP is thinking of).
I am a nanny. First week of May my MB gave me 2 weeks notice and 1 week of severance pay. She told me I dont have to come to work the following week since she'll be busy training her new nanny. Know what? I quit!
I'm confused. If you got 2 weeks pay if you work it plus promise of 1 week severance. That's 3 weeks pay to find a new job. If people are saying 4 weeks notice is sufficient, even generous, why was your 3 weeks something to quit over? Didn't you just give up that 3 weeks pay? Or am I misunderstanding what happened here. MB changed the end date on you?
I received full cash payment on the day I got fired. It seems like she really want me to "go away". I feel insulted. So I quit.
