I am a nanny. First week of May my MB gave me 2 weeks notice and 1 week of severance pay. She told me I dont have to come to work the following week since she'll be busy training her new nanny. Know what? I quit!
I'm confused. If you got 2 weeks pay if you work it plus promise of 1 week severance. That's 3 weeks pay to find a new job. If people are saying 4 weeks notice is sufficient, even generous, why was your 3 weeks something to quit over? Didn't you just give up that 3 weeks pay? Or am I misunderstanding what happened here. MB changed the end date on you?
I received full cash payment on the day I got fired. It seems like she really want me to "go away". I feel insulted. So I quit.
I think you're absolutely right. She was happy and prepared to have you go. And you got a chunk of severance so you should both be happy.

If you think a Nanny may quit before her time is up, my best advice for parents is to offer up an incentive to encourage the Nanny to stay for the duration.
Perhaps offer up the severance payment if she actually stays until the agreed upon end date.

That doesn't make sense. She pays you in full for three weeks while telling you that she only expects you to work the week in the middle? Sounds like she fired you on the spot with 3 weeks pay.
