The child's parents are out of the country. Clearly a 17 month old does not stay alone at night, so they had to hire someone.

Who leaves their toddler with someone not responsible for the child 24/7 to go overseas? Incredible. This is not your fault OP but the question about having backup for illness or an emergency should have been asked by at least one adult involved.
