I love my charges to death and their parents are busy but still really awesome parents and always make time to connect with the kids each day one way or another. Went on a big outing this week and grandma came along. She said something that really brought me up short "The kids are so lucky to have you raising them!" I said I am lucky to be their nanny but their parents are raising them. I found it really off-putting and worry about the parents hearing that kind of talk and feeling bad. Thoughts?

No. 1. Children are REARED; vegetables, livestock are raised! If you are spending most of their waking hours with these children, then, indeed, you are their primary caregiver as well as their primary objective of love and affection. Grandma is correct they are lucky.

Not true anymore, PP. Sadly "raising children" is correct now.

This must be the reason why there are so many spoiled brats.
