it will be very tough if the days vary. if you are willing to commit to a regular 1 or 2 nights a week, it will be very easy. I would just do that, and on nights you don't need her she can do laundry or clean up or something. or you can go to the gym or something.

What days exactly you need ?if I know the days and time I will do it . I am a nanny for over 19 years.can you please live your email so we can discuss this situation further.

It's really not though. College students can have class during those hours. Young professionals are still at work themselves. Both groups are more likely to be hitting up happy hours and having social plans during the early evening hours. Second jobs - retail for example - start shifts at 6pm and that work is steady with a more fixed schedule and reliable income.

I think your best bet is getting to know the teachers at the day care and have two of them agree to do it (one would be the primary, and another the secondary in the case the first is not available). when my kids were in daycare, this was very common, most teachers did babysitting and one or two use to take kids home. one of them still pick up the same kids at the after care in elementary school once a week for the parents. you do not need to pay $50/hour, but if you offer $25 I am sure you will find plenty of takers. the primary teacher may be able to find a replacement asking the other teachers herself if she is not available. the advantage is that the child knows the person well and is not picked up by a stranger at the end of the day, and you know the teacher well.

TBH I don't think you will find what you are looking for. You want someone highly qualified, available at a moments notice, who can make it to your daycare center during rush hour to pick up a child they barely know.

Becoming a working parent is a tough adjustment. There are going to be times when you just have to go ahead and leave work early to get to daycare. Yes, it's really hard saying it in some situations but the alternative is pay for consistent late afternoon/early care even - someone picks your child up early from daycare and bring them home or use an in home nanny.

If either of you have a job where having to leave the office or even just saying out loud you have to make it to daycare is going to be a consistent problem, then do yourselves a favor and have one of you start looking for a new job.

Daycare is another 4 or 5 years.

You would:

never take a class
never take a vacation without clearing it with these occasional people
never stay late at your current job for OT pay
never accept another babysitting job
cancel dates, visits to family, whatever, even if they were longstanding because you'd be willing to be available every night?

Yes. I would never take a class (I already have two masters!) never need to stay late at current job, never babysit anyone, don;t date - my husband disapproves of me dating, and all whatever.

The only thing I would do is take my usual vacation for two weeks and the OP would know far, far in advance.
