We leave our live in nanny at home and instead of child care, her week's responsibilities include feeding the fish, taking in mail. Much better for both of us.

I would LOVE for my employers to take the kids and pay me to stay home!!!

MB here who's taken Au Pairs and nannies on vacation.

I say skip the nanny in Disney, unless YOU positively absolutely need her (which it sounds like you don't) They don't view it as a vacation, even if we give them lots of free time, and only we know/appreciate how very expensive it is to bring and pay for everything for an extra person. I've ended a few vacations resentful that I didn't get as much help as I thought. Also, it's harder living together in tighter quarters- uncomfortable really.

Leave nanny at home and give her the week off, or if she's not off, give her some errands to do.

PP here. Oh, absolutely. I've been a live-in nanny many times and have always house-sat for them while they're on vacation. I'd say restocking the groceries is maybe a little much, I only say that because in the families I've lived with, I had my own food and they had theirs, we didn't really share anything other than milk & eggs. But if she needs to go to the store for herself anyway, I don't see a problem asking her to pick up a few things for you guys as well.

But by offering, you are putting the onus of deciding whether it's financially feasible on her. If you don't need her help, be clear that you will not ask her to watch kids AT ALL, offer to pay for her room if she comes, but make sure she understands that she is responsible for all other costs and she will only be getting her normal salary.
