Also nannies are not cleaners. Clearly you are used to doing nothing for yourself so you'll probably need two housekeepers and a nanny.

Also try referring to nannies as nannies, not the help! Expect to pay $2/hr +

Now, because I've become incredibly homesick, we are moving back. It's not the childcare that I'm most concerned about - four of the children are over six years of age - it's the housework. I have visions of drowning in a sea of unwashed laundry particularly since we run our own business and my husband will have to do a lot of travelling. My family will never forgive me if I move them from here and we end up with chaos.

Fortunately, since we are moving the kids from expensive private schools to public schools, we have a pretty decent budget for help ... the poster that gave 64k as a number - that's very helpful for budgeting purposes ... where do you find your help?

Hahaha yeah you won't get slave Dubai prices here. Expect to pay real wages, overtime, benefits and say goodbye to those 24/6 shifts!

Unfortunately, I'm not coming until June ... Would still love to talk to you if you'd be willing?

Our current nanny is really happy here - we brought her daughter over and now her daughter has a job - she really doesn't want to move.

Can you get a visa for your current person to come with you ? I worked for an IMF family who was able to bring her nanny/housekeeper from overseas with her for a 4 years contract and paid her a lump sum of $100000 plus a car and plenty of gifts once the nanny left. Both parties were very happy.

Thanks! Four in school grade 1 and up and hopefully, the baby in nursery school in the mornings. I'm guessing I'll need two separate people - one for housekeeping full time and one to help me manage after school some afternoons ...

You have five children... You should be looking to pay a full-time nanny
$18 for one child
$22 for two children
$25 for three children

Hopefully you have three children in school full-time.. If they need after care, then you
Are looking at paying $200-$250 a week per a child. This rates are in the NW, DC area.
I'm a mother of three, a set of twins and a three year old.. And I pay $26 to our nanny.

I found my housekeeper through a print ad in our local newspaper. I tried care.com, but it was mostly college students and people who didn't have any real housekeeping experience, but you could try there too. I personally would stay away from anyone who previously had a caregiving job, such as being a nanny or providing elder care, when you are looking for a housekeeper. I don't know if you will find this book helpful, but I did:
