When our nanny moved from a 50+ hour a week nanny job to more of a housekeeper/driving role at reduced hours we had her working 20 hours a week at $22/hour but she was doing 2 hours of housework and then 2 hours of kid stuff a day.
FOr your role you could do $18-20, if cash do the lower end. Or you could bump up her hours and add in groceries 2x/week, laundry 2x a week, vacuuming 2x/week, dinner and packing lunches 5x/week, etc.

I'm trying to figure out the going rate. I know what she wants me to pay.

If you want her, you pay what she is asking. Stop quibbling about you children's safety.

OP I would actually charge a higher rate for your job. I had a similar position with two similarly aged siblings and found that the hours were never quite enough, but it was difficult to find a complimentary part time position to work around it. My minimum rate would be $20, more if I also had to get the kids fed or do any homework tutoring.

I'm in Ashburn and have something similar. I pay $18/hr. Guaranteed minimim of 15hrs paid a week, 52 weeks a year. Many more opportunities for extra hours...snow days, TWDs and summer ifnitnall works out.

I don't know or care what the min wage is but we pay our PT nanny $15 and we're not trying to take advantage of her. She asked for $13 or $14 off the books. We opted for $15 on the books.

Or inexperienced and not smart enough to know that most places in this area are starting pay off at 11$ and letting a cheap individual that's clearly taking advantage make you out to think you're making such great money because min wage is 7.25 That's the impression I get from you.

Anonymous wrote:$15/hr here too for after school nanny who also drives 2 kids. She works about 15 hours a week. After taxes it's not a large take home pay, but I think it's reasonable. We also guarantee hours and give holiday bonuses. Minimum wage is $7.25

Where is minimum wage $7.25 an hour at?!??

That is the federal minimum wage and the minimum wage in Virginia.

But Arlington and alexandria and fairfax rate is higher it's 11$ Either way 15$ is so low to pay someone. She's only making 4$ more than should would at McDonald's or somewhere similar. And after taxes she's still only at 12$

So what do you suggest is the right amount? I bet McDonald's won't offer paid federal holidays, paid vacation, paid snow days and give big holidays bonuses.

At least 18$ no way would I take a PT job for less unless I was undocumented or for some reason couldn't find/get any other nanny job
