NOT EVERYONE CELEBRATES Thanksgiving... and for that some people would rather work.

I get no holidays off (except for my 2 weeks vacation). I have to work on Thanksgiving because it's on a Thursday (my normal workday). The thing that makes me mad is that I don't even get paid time and a half.

My employers won't ever spend a second of the day or night without a nanny. I'm sad.

Perhaps it's just a smart solution to a crazy day. Maybe it's a brutal solution to some awful scenario. (I spent one thanksgiving in an ICU w/ a dying relative. No children were allowed.)

Your judgment speaks more poorly of you than anyone else.

+1. We've had a rough year. My FIL just passed away after a long, cruel illness. My DH had major surgery and we are still reeling from the death of a sibling, who left two young children. We need an extra hand this year or there won't be a family get-together. We are all doing our best. It saddens me that someone would judge our family so harshly for just posting a job listing.

Why are you having a huge feast? You can have a low key day--order entire meal from any grocery store and serve buffet style.

We're not, why do you assume we are?

Well, if Thanksgiving is meaningless to you, why do you try to rip people off? If it's just another day to you, then shouldn't your rate reflect that? Nothing is worse than greedy money grubbers.

Ok then why not pay me holiday pay for Canadian holidays? It's a holiday, I live in this country legally and I'm entitled to holiday pay. Sorry your employers/clients don't value your time.

That's my normal rate. For a major holiday at least 30 per hour.

$35

Have you ever tried to have a fancy Thanksgiving dinner with China, silver, and crystal? Not exactly child friendly. Maybe they just want to spend time with relatives they don't normally see?

Really? What does my judgement speak of me?
