18:14 - Yes the shot is a dead virus, but lots of people call getting the flu-mist their "flu-shot" for the year and that is a small dose of a live virus. Maybe she got that.

And this is the flu-not a cold. For anyone who has ever really had the flu...not a bad cold but a real legit flu, you know it's not a 24 hour thing. I had the flu 2 years ago and there was a period of 3 days when I couldn't do anything, much less responsibly take care of someone else's child. Most people have to take some time off work when they get a real sickness. No, a nanny job does not equal Hillary Clinton.

The fact that she had such amazing references means that this is unusual-she doesn't get sick often, or at least hasn't in the past. This could very well be the only time she gets sick for the next 2 years! I can't believe you are firing her over this.

Probably a big blessing in disguise for her, though. She now has the opportunity to be with a family who aren't jackholes.

Agree with this one and you may have missed out on a great nanny that just happened to have a string of issues not due to her. People get sick and you told your nanny to stay home and now she gets the boot, what goes around may come around.

I hope your next 3 nannies this year are awful.

She may never have missed a day of work but people get sick. Do you want your young kids to be exposed to that? And, things happen. She cannot help she got the flu.

OP told her to stay home which implies she was willing to work.

You're incredible, OP. Your now ex-nanny is lucky to have got out of while she still has a good chance of finding human people to work for without having to explain a long stretch with no reference and suffer your idiocy.

So she was willing to come in and YOU told her to stay home and then fired her? Sounds like she should have checked your references better - you suck.

sounds like she needs the time off to heal and get her bearings and then start again fresh with a new family.

Good for you then OP for letting her go.

All those days taken off didn't necessarily bode well for this job & I am sure she wasn't surprised to be let go.

I certainly hope your new Nanny will be much more dependable!

Good luck!

You absolutely can! I suffer from severe flu symptoms for days after getting a flu shot. It's not at all uncommon.

No, you cannot get the flu from a flu shot! It is a DEAD virus.

You're not very smart. 50% of people who get the flu shot get sick after it. You're injected with a small dose of the flu.
