I had a job offer rescinded because my references took too long to respond. When I tell you it wrecked havoc on my finances! Nannies really do live pay check to pay check. I got every job I applied for that interview go round and accept that one because it was the best money wise. Two lessons I learned. Take advantage of unemployment from the very beginning. Don't have too much pride and call back the other families you turned down. So sorry about your sister and the situation.

Even the MB was thinking long-term the way she ended it speaks volumes and for that look at it as a blessing and move to a better family

MB here.

I'm so sorry OP. I'm glad your sister is ok.

I agree with many others here in that you've dodged a bullet. I think the poster who said these employers were looking for a reason to back out was right, I agree that they were cheap not to have paid for a trial day - and that that is a huge red flag.

And I agree that between their lower than desired offer and you having to compromise, this probably wouldn't have been an easy fit anyway.

Possibly you saved yourself an extended period of really unhappy employment. That doesn't help much when you find yourself back on the market right now, maybe, but in the long run it's for the best.

Also, next time sign the contract faster!

Perhaps the MB has been burned by last-minute cancellations by sitters in the past and considered this one right at the beginning to be a bad sign. Sorry about your sister's emergency.

You need to get off this forum.

OP here. MB and I live a couple blocks away. She saw the ambulance outside of my home. She knows I'm not lying. Why would I make up my sister basically dying and being revived to get out of a babysitting job? I'm not a heartless.

Meh, I have heard the "I had to take "X" to the ER!" fill in X with name of relative/friend/or themselves when having a sitter cancel enough times that I would probably want to react the same way MB did.

Just be glad you found out now. Mb has probably been burned by a fake family emergency in the past (I have) and thought you were lying or something. Sucks, but yes, just be glad you dodged that bullet early on.

Mb here

As frustrating as this is, be happy you are not working for people like this. I hope you find another job soon, with employers who understand that people have lives.

It probably wasn't a good fit.
