I don't really consider it win, win. I would prefer to be on the books, but it just isn't possible with this job. I would have to ask for so much more per hour to still take home close to the same amount. And it's pretty clear that they are not in a position to increase my wages by that much, let alone the $1 per hour raise that I plan on asking for. So in my mind it's benefiting them because they could only afford a nanny if paying off the books. They would have to offer closer to $16 per hour to get someone to accept this job if it were on the books, and they clearly can't afford that.

I am glad you stuck to your guns and went with your gut on this one.

Your boss tried to sweeten the deal as best as she could which means the deal would have benefited her much more than you, trust me.

Since you didn't take the bait, she is trying to make it look as if the previous nanny took the other offer and made more money from it!!

Don't assume that she is telling you the truth about this, she could be fabricating the whole thing just to make you feel bad for rejecting her offer.

It is a pure mind game on her part.

Your boss was asking you to agree to an illegal arrangement. By law, nannies are hourly employees. You can agree to guaranteed hours, but then you would still have to be paid for any extra hours that you worked.

On the other hand, if you're getting paid under the table, you're already involved in illegal behavior.

OP is working under the table for cash. No sympathy for those gaming the system.

Where do you work that they pay you $13/hr?
