I have not left yet. I'm trying to have something line up so I do not get screwed. Although he did punch me again yesterday. It's very frustrating not being able to even take a toy away or sending him to his room.

I've had a 4 year old accidentally kick me in the face. But the key was that it was an accident, which is why I asked about the child's age and the situation. No matter what, the parent laughing is unacceptable.

Pictures of any redness or bruising, documentation from a doctor's visit that occurs after the child acts out, etc. Personally, I would also email the parent about the issue, so that there is written documentation, and I would make sure to raise that I would need to know how to proceed with the child.

But as we've said, line up another position, document in the meantime, then quit. No notice.

I stand by my statement.

I play on the floor with kids everyday, so it's happened frequently. The difference is that when toddlers are climbing all over me and using me as part of the obstacle course, they don't intend to hurt me, and a gentle reminder that my face is not a step usually works.

A 10 year old would not be playing in the same way, nor would I accept the same behavior as age-appropriate (although not acceptable).

That the child is old enough to be taught makes a huge difference. If the family doesn't believe in discipline, there's nothing you can do for the child, but you have to protect yourself. Document, line up another position, then quit.
