I just recently started typing up a monthly calendar for the family I nanny for. It lists the kids activities, hours, stuff coming up, etc. I keep one on my frig, one on their frig and one in my nanny bag. We have all been surprised at how helpful it has been to see that calendar right there front and center. Wish I had thought to do this long ago. For me, getting paid has not been a problem, but it could be added to the monthly activities calendar easy-peasy.

There's no way that I can type up a calendar for the month and expect it to not change. I've done the same thing with a whiteboard, but a child erased something they didn't want to do (and a parent was the transport, not me). I keep my phone with me at all times, because I build two alarms into the calendar function per event, one to tell us that we have 5 minutes before leaving for the event, and one to tell us that we have 5 minutes before the event.

I don't think anyone, nanny or employer could disagree with you on this OP!

To have to be put in such an awkward position where you feel as if you are "asking" for your money is not fair to you at all.

The best idea I can suggest is requesting DIRECT DEPOSIT in your bank account.

If your boss has any qualm about that, use the opportunity to explain how awkward it is having to directly ask for your check.

It was years ago. I didn't care then but now trust me. I don't get anywhere near that shit.

Are you legal? They do not have The choice of not paying you legally. You should have reported, them. In fact, you should report them anyway.

Agreed. You can file after the fact, especially if it's so easy to prove (the IRS' definition of nanny makes it incredibly easy).

You should never, NEVER put up with that shit. Tell them to pay you in advance from now on, if they want you to stay.

I wouldn't have taken it. And I certainly wouldn't have put up with the nonsense of waiting for a boss to go get cash, count out bills and change to me, count it back to her, then go to the other parent's house to repeat the procedure again.

I know what you mean.

I sometimes have to remind my boss and he's always super apologetic.
I had bosses like yours before who got annoyed. Them getting annoyed is worse than having to ask for it.

Wait while she ran to the bank every damn week. Watch her count my cash in front of me to the quarter. Then tell me to recount it in front of her. I would then pack the kids up walk to dads house drop them off for the weekend (all after my hours), and do the entire thing over with the dad.

I hated that job so much and hope the parents get what they deserve one day. The little girl was and is the most amazing child I have ever known

Why in the world were you paid in cash?!
