This woman needs to find an in-home daycare and just pay for the full week. Most runs 7a-6p, but for extra, you could probably get 6a coverage.

That's the only thing in the person's budget.

If she only works 2 days a week some weeks why pay full time to a daycare ctr?
Maybe because she has an early start she cant find a daycare that opens that early that has a convenient location

Im not saying she is paying well, but there is a lot more to consider than just, oh if she cant pay well her kid should go to a daycare.

The only person who needs to consider anything is her. Why are her financial challenges anyone's concern but hers? She can't afford a nanny and has no business trying to hire one. There are childcare subsidies for low income workers, she could swap childcare with another shift worker, move closer to family, get another job that would allow her a more predictable schedule or more money to afford childcare, and so on. Her financial situation doesn't entitle her to a nanny any more than a nanny who works for a rich employer is entitled to a crazy above market rate.

They can not afford a nanny.

Yep I agree. 9 hours of care for your child and they want to pay $50 a day?

I hear people defending this ad, but come time for the news to report on some sort of abuse on the child at the hands of this $5 nanny and then all of the defenders will turn on the employer with a quickness for paying so cheaply and expecting a safe and nurturing environment for their poor defenseless child

I know! even nannies and after school help/dgo walkers make $200 a day in Iowa! I can only imagine what that is in Washington DC.

No, that is definitely crazy. That shouldn't even be legal, since it's illegal to pay a rate like that in any other position. Those arguing this fact must just have nothing better to do.

oh please.

and i notice that these cheap parents try to include they work in "law enforcement" or in the military so that people will sympathize with them looking to hire illegally. Most daycares that accept infant open at 6/6:30 a.m. And if there isn't one open doesn't excuse wanting to pay someone a wage that would've been paid 20 years ago. The person they would hire would not even be able to work a second job because this cheap parent wants "flexibility". We all know wha that means.

Parents like this need to beg their family or a friend to help them.

Does law enforcement really that cheap regarding pay...??

Or is the person who placed the ad just cheap as heck??

I find that rate is very low, and that is why the other nanny probably left the job. I mean, who wouldn't????

I feel so bad for the child involved, he/she will suffer the most from all of this since the company they will keep for those hours will have no moral to accept a job for such low pay.

Perhaps the parent cannot find a daycare that would work for such unstable hours, etc. Still...that is no free pass for paying your provider peanuts.

Looking for a nanny to watch my newborn daughter at my home while I return to work Monday-Friday around 7am-5pm. I am a soldier in the Army and I need someone I can depend on to show up daily saying that my job isn't so flexible. I cannot afford $1500 a month for a daycare and would like someone to spend personal time with my child. I would love it if you can: -Come 7am-5pm Monday-Friday (I work 8am-4pm) -Newborn care experience -Minor house (wash bottles, baby clothes etc.) -Live in Monday-Friday is optional, you'll have your own bathroom and share a room with the baby. -Must have reliable Transportation, car not necessary but a plus, bus stop not far and train station 1 mile from apartment -Potty Training a plus -Speak English and Another language a plus (I would love her to learn another language early) -CPR plus -First Aid

Sittercity, Alexandria, oh and mom is advertising $5-10/hour

Come on, if you can't afford daycare, you certainly can't afford a nanny! I sympathize, but if income is low enough to not be able to afford daycare, the parent can always apply for help...

Then she needs to find another mom who is willing to switch childcare with her. That's what a number of moms did in the midwest where I grew up.

Yeah, but then they'd have to operate fair and square. Most of these parents I see want to get over on someone. Not all, thank goodness.
