It doesn't matter how old the kids are. I love to cook, so I have no issue getting kids involved and cooking for the kids. However, I'm not interested in making something for the kids, then something for me, then finally something for the parents.

Why is everyone so mad? My nanny makes dinner when I ask her to as part of her job and usually she makes some for herself too. My kids are older and she has time -- when they were younger, she didn't cook

DH and I always make sure that there are leftovers to reheat because we know we won't have time to cook from scratch during the week. It is not the nanny's responsibility to cook dinner, but since she's willing to reheat leftovers for the kids it makes a world of difference in how our evenings go.
Our previous nanny usually didn't feed the kids dinner, so I would as soon as I got home at 6pm. The kids were hungry and frequently cranky and I was always stressed because they wanted my attention and I needed to focus on getting dinner ready for them. Our current nanny decided that the kids needed to eat around 5pm (since she could tell that they were hungry) and took it upon herself to prepare dinner for them from the start even though it wasn't something that we expected of her.
Long story short, since the new nanny started 7 months ago the kids are happier, we're happier and the nanny is well respected and appreciated for having the initiative to realize that this was something simple that she could do to make life easier for everyone.

My charges eat at 5. I cook dinner for them Monday-Friday and often leave leftovers and things they can heat up on the weekends.
