Yeah, why is everyone beating up on OP? She/he makes some valid points, I think. I am sure there are a few bad apples out there who work their nanny to death. Of course there are also going to be awesome families out there. It's OK to vent in a public forum, so let it out, OP!

I highly disagree with this person.

OP's posting did not have anything in it that would be considered self-serving at all.

She only wants to be treated with respect in her profession, not worn out to the bone.

Happy Nanny = Happy Child = Happy Parents.

Win, win and win.

Oh, good to hear *some* nannies are earning the "how dare she!" wage, much to the disappointment of *many* parents here.

And oh yes, doesn't *every* parent want to think the nanny is "oh so happy"?

We provide a good wage and a good job. If she's not happy, that's on her. We don't need to provide bliss as part of our employment package.

Then I guess you aren't the pp saying her nanny is happy.

In the DC area, $25-35/hr is typically considered a decent wage, $18-20/hr is not enough for a good nanny.

If you want a 25-35 wage then get a new job. One in an office that requires a degree. An advanced one in this day in age.

I'd love to make 400k/yr, and no matter how much I cry and think I deserve it, I clearly don't because no one has offered to pay me that for my skill set. This is how life works.

I would agree with you that most 'nannies' don't deserve $25-35 an hour, absolutely, but still there are nannies that make that. I am one of them. You CAN get to that if you are good, but all these silly nannies on DCUM whining about their families and all the work they have to do will never make it there. They are the ones that should look for implies work, but if they had the right attitude and work ethic they could make it up to my range.
