But yes, you do have to weed though a good number of responses!

Always have to weed through garbage in order to find the hidden treasure.

Or kiss a lot of frogs before you meet your prince.

Same logic and analogy for finding a good nanny.

EXTRAORDINARY >ECD Specialist/Professional Nanny AVAILABLE TO START 9/14/15<

Hi, my name is Sheila and I am looking for a permanent (at least 2-3 years) position with AT LEAST 25-30 hours a week, Monday through Friday. I am available between the hours of 8:30am-4:30 p.m. (ideally). I specialize in early childhood development, ages newborn-4 years old, yet I have worked with kids of all ages. I am looking for two way flexibility as I am a single mother with two middle school age children. My schedule is pretty fixed for this reason but I do have a little flexibility to work additional hours on occasion.

I am a 46-year-old mother of three, native Washingtonian with 25 years of personal experience and over 13 years of professional experience, working with kids from newborn and up. I enjoy being a part of a child's development, mentally, emotionally, intellectually, cognitively and physically - impacting them positively, as well as teaching and guiding them through creativity, imagination, interactive activities, reading and always with love.

I have a variety of interests. I love reading, art, music, writing, the water/swimming, walking, getting outside and being as active as possible. There is much to do in DC. I am hoping to find the right family to work with. Please contact me directly and I will be happy to share my resume and excellent references with you after we have set up an initial phone interview.

Email: smkinman@gmail.com

I look forward to hearing from you.

I find it interesting how most nanny agencies say how bad the quality nannies are on care.com then they post to recruit those nannies.

Regarding Care.com....Keep everything in perspective here. ANYone and EVERYone can post a profile on that website and claim they are a "Nanny." Anyone with access to a computer with internet. (Which includes everyone since public libraries offer free computer/internet usage.)

So basically you are paying into something where you could be scammed or deceived. There is no middle man so you wouldn't be able to sue if someone DID in fact scam you.

I say since all the so-called "Nannies" could be or could not be nannies, Care.com is no different than going on CL.

It's the same risk factor.

If it were my child, I would go with an agency. It is a much better investment overall. Plus, isn't your child worth it?

PP they probably haven't been on because they found FT work and kept the profile up for if they wanted babysitting gigs or needed to start looking for a long time. Agencies at least offer a guarantee (I say that as a nanny who works almost exclusively through agencies and word of mouth).

So if Care.com is the worst, where did everyone find their fabulous nannies? I found my first nanny through DCUM, and as luck would have it this nanny was actually employed by someone in my company. She was a disaster. I tried three neighborhood list serves as well but the only responses I received were from families asking if I wanted to join their nanny share (which I wasn't). Eventually, I found a nanny using Care.com. I searched a lot of profiles and proactively reached out to potential nannies as well. Don't be discouraged if you don't get a lot of responses. I didn't notice it initially but you can see how frequently people are checking their Care.com accounts. Some of the nannies I contacted hadn't been on Care.com for months!
