She said the baby was *asleep* and you assumed that meant *in the crib* which is not necessarily the same thing, now is it?

She probably forgot that you had the dropcam and lied and was caught red handed. What do you expect her to do about such a silly stupid lie? Get on her knees and beg for forgiveness? Her response makes perfect sense. She is lying. She got caught.

If confronted with truth in this situation, and she knows she cannot possibly come up with a plausible explanation, the next sensible thing is to pretend like you have no idea what in the world you are talking about and act not guilty.

She lied for no good reason. I would doubt what else she is lying about.

I've been in a similar situation. When trust erodes, you just spend all your time watching the dropcam feed. You will not be able to get your work done. If there is any way to let the nanny go without big ramifications (such as having to take a lot of days off work) I would try to transition to a new nanny as quickly as possible.

If she lied about one thing I would have a hard time trusting her about something else. Some people are OK with small lies....if it involved my child I am not!

Hoooooo boy. If my employer came to me with an accusation of lying, on something as trivial as this, when I HADNT been lying... I'd be looking for a new job. You shouldn't have asked her, OP.

Honestly this has happened to me. I'm a nanny. My charge was in bed when I texted his parents to let them know he was asleep. It wasn't five min later he was screaming and I had to go into his room. I walked him around for a bit. It happens. I wouldn't jump to conclusions just yet. Ask her.

What about the most obvious, straight forward explanation?

Nanny was telling the truth. She had no trouble getting the baby to sleep, and had the sleeping baby *with her* when she texted you that. 20 minutes later, she put the sleeping baby in the crib.

Op seems crazy.

I'm a mother of three and have had the same nanny for their entire lives as well as a rotation of two sitters. I don't feel the need to spy on them through a webcam (because I do trust them) and if I found myself in the same situation as you I would either ask her about it (though I can't imagine doing that as I wouldn't be uncomfortable as you), or assume something like the other PPs mentioned -- lag in the camera, diaper change, there was some difficulty in getting her down, etc. I wouldn't be posting about it on the internet

I would just assume that the nanny got the baby to sleep and was holding the sleeping baby when she texted you that it all went fine. Once the baby was deep in sleep, the nanny went to transition her to the crib.

I don't think the sitter was lying, and apparently neither does OP. Getting bent out of shape worried about a slippery slope of deceit because you don't think what you see on the dropcam matches the report is bizarre. If OPd asked her nanny right away she'd have been reassured and probably wouldn't have posted. Some people need drama in their lives.
