Eureka! That's it, overpay your nanny so she doesn't take advantage of you and your house when you are out of town.

No, pay for a professional instead of a college student.

It's not tattling.
Someone threw a party in their house, likely without authorization. I would have told them even if was only contained inside the house and cars were parked up/down the street.

Wouldn't YOU want to know what is actually going on in your property when you are away on vacation? very rarely does someone authorize someone else to throw a party in their house while they are gone.

Make sure, however that you stress to them that your problem was mostly w/the things the guests did such as the bottle throwing, etc. rather than just letting them know about a party.

That way your point will get across w/out sounding like you are "tattling."

I don't care whether it comes across as "tattling" or not, it's the same theory that I use with small kids. You may act in any way that is within the rules, but you may not behave in a manner that affects others in a negative manner. Frankly, given that the woman is supposedly a nanny, I would think that she would know that she needs to behave in a professional manner, and that includes not hosting parties in her employer's home without their permission.

Op here- I barely interact with this nanny. The only time when I interact with my neighbor is on the weekends and that is when the nanny is off duty.

Aupair or nanny?

Why are people jumping on OP? I would totally want to know if *anyone* had a party at my house while I was gone (nanny, older kids, whatever). That's just being a good neighbor, keeping an eye out for each other.

Last night we noticed the nanny had a noisy party while our neighbors were out of town. The guests threw empty bottles in people's yards. Not cool. DH and I are discussing if we should just mind our own buiness or just mention the party to our neighbors with in person or email. I have no idea if they agreed to let her host a party or not. I don't really mind if people want to throw parties but I think dumping glass bottles in other people's yards or in the street is extremely disrespectful and potentially dangerous.

If she weren't a nanny, you wouldn't care. MYOB. Nobody likes snoopy neighbors.

How violating. Awful judgment. And the live-in nanny did it!?! She must have wanted to be fired.

Our neighbors always report that kid of stuff. A couple years back it was a Sidwell Friends pet sitter who threw a party and got called out.

When will parents learn to stop hiring children to care for their children?

Cue the: "When I was 14 I was caring for 19 kids and extremely responsible..."

Agreed. Nothing irritates me more than looking through profiles on care and seeing a 17 yo say she has more than 10 years experience... Maybe as a part-time mother's helper and later as a part-time babysitter, but not as a full-time babysitter or nanny.

I don't know how old the nanny is but the party attendees looked to be in their late teens/ early twenties
