+1 I doubt you could find a teenage babysitter for $12.80 an hour.

$800 a WEEK is much more than someone who didn't go to college can easily find, let alone a teenager.

Some other options are 38 hours a week at McDonalds for about $300. Or being a teaching aide at a school full time for about $375 a week ($750 per paycheck.) Or stocking at Walmart for somewhere between $300-400 a week.

Knowing these numbers now beings OPs nanny is starting to look pretty good.

Everyone has a right to a livable wage, including non college graduates. Childcare givers should get $25 an hour . it is hard work.

Dc area can be many places. It can be NWDC where this would likely be pretty low. Or it could be outer SS or Reston where it might be fine although on the lower end of normal maybe. Where you are matters in judging the rate.

Good to hear this.

800/week. 55 hours. DC metro.

For 1 child, definitely NOT too low. That's a high weekly salary. It's a lot of hours, but the baby naps, etc. People are constantly trying to inflate salaries on this board. I don't know anyone who pays that much for one child, even at 55 hours a week. I know several who pay 650/week for 50 hours.

That is in the ballpark for one-two kids, and one kid is not around until late day.

Because some people would want more than 4 hours of pay a week. Why is this so hard for you to understand?

No one was talking about a 13 year old for crying out loud.

I won't pay a teenager (any age) $15/hr. That's what I pay adults. Teenagers get 9-12/hr from me. I never have trouble finding high school sitters at those rates and I'm in lower Montgomery County.

Attitude issue.

Huh? You're not making sense.

Agree.
