I live with my family and we are VERY comfortable and loving with one another.
When I leave for the weekends, mom will text or kiddos will to say hey. I do the same.

If kids go to their fathers over the weekends (they are divorced) I will text dad and see how they are.
Or sometimes I miss them and want to say hi!

I still keep in touch with old families I worked with.

It depends on the nanny . Some check out and don't want to bother the family others like me, just are more comfortable and don't mind.

Do't stress about it!

Why does there have the be the distinction between either being totally involved and "part of the family" and checked/detached? I'm a nanny who rarely texts on the weekends because I have my own life, not because I don't care about my charges and their well being. I think about them all of the time, I just don't feel the need to be in constant contact with my employers (because at the end of the day, no matter how close/different the situation may seem, that is what they are).

I think it's human.

I think some moms are insecure about this because they are afraid of how close their nanny is to their children. I'm just happy we have a nanny who loves our kids so much.

We need more mothers like you, PP.

Me: On my nanny forum this week: "Is it okay for nannies to text over the weekend if the kid was sick or is it too much?" (Please tell me if I email you too much!!!!)
MB: Don't be ridiculous. You're one of the family!

I text/email if I come across something interesting online (be it a craft idea I know my charges will enjoy or a show my MB might like) and so does my MB. I've had that with most of the families I worked for as it was always more than a strictly employer/employee relationship. With more casual jobs I would only text if the kid was sick - after all I'm not that interested in their life.

I think you are truly blessed if your nanny texts you off the clock, concerned about your child. A nanny that truly cares for the child she watches is most definitely worth her weight in gold. Solid gold.

Unless she is texting you every single weekend, 3x a day, etc., I would just count my blessings + be extremely grateful.

It wouldn't bother me, but my nanny has her own life and family, so we tend to only text on a weekend if something is truly hysterically funny (maybe 3x a year?) or if one of the kids is seriously ill or I have a question that can't wait until Monday (2x a year maybe?) - she never texts me on the weekend, I think she prefers to give us our family time and she's busy with her own family.

My MB texted me probably close to 10 times when I was admitted to the hospital for 3 days. I got really sick while I was with my charge, so she had to relieve me that day. Once she found out I was in the hospital she wanted to know if I was okay, and especially if what I had was contagious since I was around the baby all week.

I didn't find it intrusive at all. In fact, it made me feel like she cared more about me than about having child care in place, and I wouldn't hesitate to do the same if I knew something was going on with my charge or the family.

I agree with PPs that you should be thankful that your nanny cares so much. The opportunity never really presented itself for me to text my NF about my charge over the weekend, but if something major had come up and I knew about it I would totally ask. Just like they would text me on a Sunday to let me know that my charge was feeling under the weather over the weekend.

It would be weird in basically any other field, but I truly care about my charges, and if something major were to happen I would probably worry about them all weekend if I didn't ask how they were doing.

Don't you have your own life to live on the weekends? Have you nothing better to do than text MB?

Uh, I think the PP was being totally reasonable. She's not saying she texts all the time -- just when she was really worried about the baby being sick.

This is super, super considerate. It shows that your nanny genuinely cares. She's on her day off and thinking about your how kid is doing anyway! She's a keeper.
