It is an interesting cross section of voices here - but the trolling really takes away from what could be a wonderful resource.

I agree. It seems that there is one ugly poster who always comes here who has never even had a nanny but HATES ALL NANNIES WITH an unnatural passion and one nanny who seems to think that anything under $35 an hour is morally wrong. Both post CONSTANTLY.

There are more than one person.

OP, ignore this troll.

I think you could find someone who would like to earn a little extra summer cash.

You could advertise on Sittercity.com and/or Care.com.

I see ads for these types of jobs all the time.

Good luck!~

$15-$18 is perfectly fine.

I don't have an exact figure in mind. I suppose it depends on who I find to hire, but I was thinking somewhere between $15 and $18 / hour. Does that sound about right? And I'll totally check the Marymount board closer to the summer, thanks for that idea!!

Haha that about $7-10 per hour under the norm. Good luck.

That's ridiculous, PP. Don't you bother to do research on market rates?

OP, you should expect to pay $18/hr. Maybe as high as $19/hr for someone you really like.

Your FSO network should be able to help you a lot. Match with nannies or help. I assume grandma or an aunt does not want to come?

Don't use DCUM, the sliver of DC area nannies that post here all the time are awful. Whatever you hear here, take it with a huge grain of salt and double-check all info with FSO families, www.care.com, call up White House Nannies for market info or Millennium nannies.
Finding 1 month of help, in the summer, might be quite easy. Especially with college kids back or on light summer loads.

Please stop your nastiness tonight. It might be fine for a college student. Who knows?

Try posting a job listing on care.com closer to your arrival date (maybe in May) and line up a few candidates to do a telephone interviews with. Have the one you re most interested in email their resume/references and check them out. You can also run a background check on them through care.com.

I'd never waste my time on those irresponsible sites. Sorry.
