It may also be that the more modest working families feel guilty that they have people working for them and identify quite closely with those they employ. I know because I am one of those employers. My DS's classmate's mom, from the Philippines who grew up with domestic employees, nickels and dimes them and fires them without blinking an eye.

Obviously, OP, you are bitter and feel entitled to some special "generosity" because your employers are wealthy.

This is where you're wrong and you really need to adjust your expectations if you are going to be successful in this profession.

Your employers' wealth has nothing to do with your worth. Your worth depends on the job they need you to do and your ability to do it well. Frankly, if you are peeking into their mail to know what they are spending on a throw, you aren't a good employee. They appreciated you enough to keep you on and pay you. That's all you're allowed to expect.

I'm going to suggest you stop snooping if you want to keep this next job.

Note to the extraordinary rude nanny a few posts ago. Some of us have had training, some of us have multiple languages, cooking.skills, etc. Before I was a nanny, I had another career that benefits my nanny families enough that I've always been offered extra money and guaranteed hours in exchange. I , as a working parent, that would like to keep my family afloat, as my bosses are also doing, have the right to negotiate the best contract possible. Why would I deliberately take less money and paid time off? As I stated, I work with agencies, I'm kind, upbeat, and have a can do attitude that lands me paid time off . And the families DO get paid for time off as well, especially when they can work from home.

People get ill , even with perfect lifestyles. I got the shingles last year, and my bosses gave me generous time off, graciously.I'm glad you are a perfect machine. I sure hope you never need dental work, or get ill because you ran into a virus, or get cancer, as several folks I know have. Your ideas about life are cruel to those that don't deserve it. What if you were the caretaker for a child with leukemia, or type 1 diabetes? I guess those children lived such an unhealthy lifestyle.

MB here, and this is what I've observed as well. Some of the wealthiest families are the stingiest.

Just because you don't take care of yourself doesn't mean you should be entitled to pay without performance. Every day you take off for being sick because of your bad hygiene, bad lifestyle, and bad choices mean other people have to in some way suffer to make up for you. How is that fair?
