This is a very insular way of thinking. I wasn't raised in America, and using the terms "pretty penny", to describe costly items isn't over the top. At least not in my culture. To his/her own.

OP, your MB is truly inappropriate and passive-aggressive. I would let her know, in a nice way that her comments were making me uncomfortable.

I hear the term "pretty penny" used. I would gauge OP is a reader or watches a lot of movies like me. My nanny likes to shop and dresses better than I do. She is younger and more attractive, but I am not the jealous type. We let her shower and change at our house so that she can make her evening social events. I will often tell her she looks pretty and "nice dress", etc. It is unfortunate that her MB feels competitive with her.

Ok, he is not a "Sugar Daddy" he is my boyfriend of five years. I supported him through graduate school, so it's not like his is a one way relationship.

Do I wear designer shoes everyday? No. However I've taken my charges to recitals and concerts and I have worn my nicer outfits and shoes per request by NF. She easily has a much more expensive wardrobe, why should I feel ashamed for a handful of nice pieces of jewelry and outfits?

I have designer boots, purse and few nice pieces of jewelry. I'm also going on a 10 day vacation to Europe. While I don't brag (I'm not rich or better than anyone else) I would never tone down my lifestyle to make someone else feel better about their own. I work hard for my money and save it. here is why I have some many nice things...I DONT HAVE CHILDREN! I make half of what my MB makes and less than a quarter of what her and husband make combined, the difference I don't have a family support so I'm able to live a similar lifestyle to them on my lower income.

LOL, just because he bought her a nice purse doesn't mean he's a sugar daddy. Couples usually buy each other presents. So she's spoiled? Who cares?
