Actually, your base rate of $18/hr is on the higher than average for two kids in NWDC. I would stick with it, though, because you are looking for some light housework and flexibility. But I agree with the PP that you need to pay OT for the 10+ hours over 40.
$18 for two kids isn't higher than average for two kids in NW Dc. It's what YOU would pay. to the OP, you're offering a fair rate.
No. $18/hr for two kids is on the high end of average in NWDC. You agree, as you confirmed that OPs offer is fair.
Market rates are real. Educate yourself.

The one thing I hadn't really considered was the higher rate for OT. Even though we'd technically pay it since we do everything through a payroll agency, I was still mentally thinking a flat $18/hr. If we do OT for 10 hrs a week, it brings the overall hourly rate up to almost $20/hr. For 2 kids in NWDC, maybe that's where we should be.
We're not looking for a "bargain" here--just wanting to know what is fair so we don't over or under pay. Really appreciate all the feedback.

And I would not be surprised if an experienced nanny asked for $18 as a base rate for two kids (even if one is in school part-time) and overtime of $27. Candidly, I regularly see nannies asking for $20 hour these days...
