PP here: I want to add that I include other benefits when I say "raise." For instance, additional paid vacation time (of your choosing), more help with health insurance, etc. End of year bonuses or gifts should not be included, though, since you can't count on them.

You definitely deserve a raise after working for a family for 4.5 years at the same rate. Do not listen to anyone telling you otherwise. Between COL and your added experience, it really should have happened earlier.

Just out of curiosity, how much are you making now? No matter what you say, I think you deserve a raise. I'm just wondering how much the family is taking advantage of you (because not giving you a raise after all these years is taking advantage of you).

I posted a couple weeks ago about a similar situation and received $2 raise! I was expecting maybe $1 so was pleasantly surprised. They both mentioned they were embarrassed they didn't bring it up first and thanked me for being proactive! Good luck OP, seems like you deserve it!

$5 a MONTH rent increase means you need a $1 an HOUR (160+ hours a month) increase? How is that fair?

Nannies aren't the only ones not getting raises. Lots of workers in many industries are not getting raises, even while their expenses rise.

Funny...Nannies are not supposed to get raises, yet it seems every 8 months or so, my landlord has no issue sending out notices to us residents that due to "cost of living" increases...Our monthly rent will increase five dollars starting in thirty days or so.

Even my brother who is on State disability, gets his Social Security check amount raised every year due to a "Cost of Living" increase as well.

Just an fyi, I have a five bedroom home and my two children share one bedroom. So don't automatically think just bc two kids will share means there are financial problems.

Look for another job now because you're next to be cut off. No one voluntarily moves to a house with one bathroom.

Nope, I've always contracted and billed what I felt my services we worth. And also I have been in the same apartment in downtown for 4 years now and my rent hasn't changed at all.

I feel my services are worth a dollar more an hour annually because I have a year's worth of experience that I didn't have the year before!!
