It's not a new trend or trend at all. Safety experts have done testing and all agree 2 is the bare minimum to forward face. Some car seats are coming out that require you to rear face until 2 and if you live in one of the 48 states that are proper use it would be illegal to forward face before two in those Sears.

Op your 3 year old can forward face but they still need a 5 point harness until age 6. The harmony defender is under $100 and will harness them and then turn into a booster.

To the nanny that says their parents their rules works for some situations but safety is not one of them. If you're in an accident and the child is severely injured and killed the parents can sue you especially if they find out the child wasn't peoperly secured. Would you allow your charge to play with knives on your watch because the parents say it's ok, or jump off the top stair of multiple stairs? I'm guessing no. Now if the parents say no screen time on your watch them yes their rules or no chocolate. These aren't issues that could cost you thousands of dollars in lawsuits and possibly ruin your career

additionally - I'm sorry to say this to you - maybe your nanny DOES know a bit more than you. I'm not a mother and would never pretend to understand what mother's go through or what their lives are like, but I am currently on my 8th infant charge. I work with a FTM and I DO know more than her about infants. I'm sorry -- it's my profession. I have 10+ years of experience, I do know more about some things than my MB. that's why they pay me

please do not penalize your nanny for wanting your children to be as safe as they can be. that's just silly

I'll piggyback on this, and say that some parents some parents do feel offended if the nanny does know more than them. We are supposed to know more, that's what we're paid for. I know that I used one of my former employers skills when I was setting up an IRA, and heeded her advice in other ways. Simply put OP, let her do the job you pay her to do.

I nanny for a 15 month old that has forward faced since 12 months. Not all parents agree with the new trend of waiting until age 2 or 3.

as a nanny I would also refuse your request and possibly even find a different job since you are clearly not okay with that. my jaw would absolutely DROP if I saw a 13 month old forward facing! and honestly even if I saw somebody in the parking lot or out in public that I didn't know, I would politely mention something. As a nanny who drives I would absolutely refuse your request in this situation as well. Your children's safety is in my hands-I would never take on the possible liability of driving someone else's children if they are not properly restrained. I wouldn't do it in my car or yours.

You really only need new seats for the older child. You can easily RF your old Britax for the toddler in less it is expired (yes, they do expire). I would pass down the old convertibles and get either the Securekid or Frontier 90 for the older child.

You don't have to take all the pointers. Remember her way of doing things, will probably work great for her, when she is with your kids and your way will work best when you are with her kids. I would be open to trying and learning new things, but you do not have to take all her advice (except on car seats) as facts.

If you are using one seat in multiple cars, do get the new britax click tight. It makes for a very easy and quick install. But, for a harnessed booster, I'd get one for each car and if you need to, go cheaper with the Securekid (we have several of the harnessed boosters and this is my favorite).

The carseats she's right about.

The other pointers may just be a matter of opinion in which no one is right or wrong.

Experience doesn't always make right.

I've learned plenty from first time parents and I have years of experience.

I'm going to have nanny order new seats for all vehicles tomorrow.

I'm not sure about the other pointers yet. We'll see.

She does know more than you. Ask on one of the car seat facebook groups and they will tell you she is correct.

Your nanny is absolutely right. You need to apologize and buy proper car seats. The new recommendation is a minimum of age two, but better to rf till the limit of the seat which is usually 40 pounds. It is ok to ff a three year old, but some keep the, rf. At a minimum the three year old should be harnessed.

There are several cheaper seats like the evenflo secure kid or harmony defender for under or around $100 and better seats that are easy to install like the Britax frontier.

You could fire her but you would be making a huge mistake to fire someone who cares enough to take the time to learn and care for your kids properly. If you want your three year old in an ill fitting seat in your car, fine but nanny is correct with harnessing and rf.

I'm a nanny in the exact same situation and I have kept my mouth shut. Their children their rules as long as I'm not breaking a law I'm ok with it. I'm not a fan of it but it's my job to please the parents
