Wait, what?

I am not sure why I was dragged into this, but here's what I think, since someone seems to think (incorrectly) that they know my opinion on outings for 5-month-olds.

Let the babies go out! Use common sense, keep classes to a minimum if possible, but take that baby to the park, the tourist attractions, playdates, etc.

Outings benefit kids of all ages. Babies brains don't click on when they learn to walk, they learn all the damn time, so let then experience things!

A 5 month old has no interest in other children, if you take them to some silly playgroup and set them down in the middle of the floor to get sick then more power to you, you deserve to be fired.


Tell that to my MB. I am taking my charge beause SHE signed her up for classes. That's MBs call so she can fire herself, not me.


If you read Nannydebs posts on what it takes to be a real nanny you will notice that you should be the one imparting your experience and wisdom onto mB and letting her know taking a 5mo to classes is just dumb.


It's her child so its her rules. I don't care what nannydeb says. I too, believe a child should get interaction with other people as early as they can.

In summer I would agree with you, but honestly it's winter in DC. Just wear layers. It's not rocket science.

I'm OP. I absolutely hate missing work and I feel almost guilty because I know my employers don't have backup. I also know that my responsibility is my charges health, not finding backup for them. I have a duty to protect my charge and I am not willing to put him in danger or compromise his health.

Maybe MB will fire me, I don't know. All I know is I did the right and responsible thing.

You would really want a nanny contagious with strep around your 5-month-old? I'm a MB. I know it's not as dangerous as an under-4-month old, but until a baby is at least 6 months and can take more medicines like Advil and has had those 6 month shots, I wouldn't want to risk an uncomfortable and potentially serious illness.
