What's "huge" for one person, isn't so huge for another person. Communication is always key.

People on this site are so rude it sickens me. Ignore the vulgar comments.

I began working with a family full time in late October 2014. For Christmas I received a nice "thank-you" type Christmas card, a little inexpensive makeup bag, a $200 Nordstrom gift card, and a really nice balsamic vinegar I had said I liked (both the family and I love cooking). In addition to that I also got a lot of paid time off around the holidays.

So, if I were in your position I would have felt much more appreciated if I had gotten more. But you did get the paid time off, and that's huge.

I've been with this family since March and I didn't get a bonus nor a card, but a big hug saying Happy Holidays. It was frustrating, but I guess that's how it is. They're a good family and Christmas is not about money; it's Christmas for me everyday since they treat very well each day. Two weeks of paid vacation at once is a blessing so just count it OP.

No, my actually paid vacation time is two weeks in August. I never knew I had the week after Christmas off until an hour before they left-!
It would've been nice to know before hand; I could've gone to visit my aunt in Florida.
