I may have a different prospective. Have you sat her down and talk to her about leaving for 3 months? I wonder if you told her that wasn't going to work for; if she would readjust her plans. My guess is that if you were okay with it last year, then she may think you are okay with it again. It may just be a communication issue.

As far as the language barrier goes, everything in this area is written in both English and Spanish. What language does she speak? If its Spanish, I would worry too much. I mean you have survived this long and are able to communicate with her thus far. I feel that you are using the language as an excuse for something else.

It sounds too me that you are just done with her. And if that's the case, then start looking. However, I am sure you will be increasing your nanny salary pay if you want someone that speaks fluent English and drives. Be prepared to pony up for what you want! paid vacation, gas money, ect.

MB here. Not sure about the crazy trolls, but I agree with the other opinions. Start looking for nannies. In a week or two, sit her down and let her know that as of January, you'll be looking for other nannies. Offer her a bonus to stay through her end date and offer to give her a fair recommendation that emphasizes the many nice things that she has done for your family. You don't have to of course lie on her behalf to say she can drive, speak fluent english, etc., but you can say that given her abilities she was caring and your sons adored her.

Good luck. January is not a bad time to find someone new and at least you have some lead time.

I'm the OP and she had gotten her citizenship. Sadly she's been here for 20 years and hasn't taken much initiative to learn English. Last week she make new demands for me to drive her to and from work because she didn't have a ride to our house. She could have easily taken the bus or metro like the rest of us do. My decision to let her go is becoming much easier now.

Do your part and hire a citizen.
